Teaching Staff

Our teacher is Mr Friend.      Mrs Gemmell will teach the children every other Friday.

We are also supported by Mrs Somerset and Mrs Bland.

Spring Term 1 2021

This term, our topic is 'Oceans' - in which we will identify the 5 oceans of the world - and discuss how these are all joined, but have distinct boundaries. We will explore the features of the oceans and some of the animals that live in them. We will write persuasive texts based on oceans; and base art work on ocean themes.

Homework

Homework will usually be set on Wednesday and is expected to be in by the following Monday . I will be available to help children with homework during lunch times. Homework sheets will given to the children, but they will also be posted to the website.

Homework will usually consist of:

  • maths - practise questions related to the current maths unit
  • spellings - a list of spellings using the spelling rule(s) that we are learning each week
  • English - using the spellings, punctuation and / or grammar being learnt that week

Morning Maths

Year 5 and 6 children are encouraged to attend Early Maths which takes place on a Tuesday and Thursday from 08:10.  This club is free and is designed to be a fun additional session where mental and oral maths learning takes place.  The emphasis is on developing skills, accuracy and speed for mental calculations which supports formal written calculations.  If you are interested, please see Mrs Gemmell or Mr Friend.

PE

PE is usually on a Wednesday and Friday afternoon. Children need to wear their PE kit to school on these days and warm clothing may be required as often we do PE outdoors even in cold weather.  A 'beanie hat', fleece jumper, tracksuit bottoms or leggings and fingerless gloves may be useful.
